Browsing and searching.

This site has no accounts, contact forms or advertising scripts. Images, styles and search data are served with the site. Google Analytics is optional, as explained below.

Plant searches run in your browser against our published guide index. Search text also appears in the search page’s URL, which can be saved in browser history or included when you share that link. Please do not enter personal or sensitive information in plant search.

Optional Google Analytics.

If you choose “Accept all” or enable Analytics in “Manage preferences” and save, Google Analytics helps us understand visits, popular pages, traffic sources, engagement and clicks on retailer links. Analytics is the only optional cookie category currently offered. It uses cookies and receives information such as page visits, browser and device details, referring website, and technical information associated with the request. We keep Google advertising features and Google signals off.

We send page addresses without query strings or fragments and limit referring addresses to the website’s origin. After Analytics acceptance, a retailer-link click may send the plant ID, Amazon product ID, retailer name and link placement to Google. We use these events in summary reports; we do not receive your Amazon purchases or account details through this integration. Our integration does not send your plant-search text, saved-plant list, email correspondence or personal contact information. Private review pages and local development previews do not collect Google Analytics data.

The Google tag loads only after you accept. “Reject optional” keeps it off, and the site works either way. Continuing to browse without choosing does not turn Analytics on. You can change or withdraw your choice through “Cookie preferences” in the footer. “Manage preferences” identifies Google as the Analytics provider, lists the cookies and browser storage, and lets you save an on/off choice for Analytics. Opening the panel or changing its checkbox without saving does not change your existing choice. Withdrawing removes the Analytics cookies set by this integration and reloads the page to stop the tag; it does not erase data already collected.

Cookies and saved preferences.

The Analytics cookies are set for plantssafeforcats.com. Their expiry is not extended on each visit. Browsers may shorten cookie lifetimes, and clearing browser data can remove cookies and saved preferences sooner. Local storage does not expire automatically; our site stops honoring an expired choice and asks again. If browser storage is blocked, your choice may apply only to the current page.

Data retention and reporting.

Google Analytics is configured to retain user-level and event-level data for two months, with no reset on new activity. This is separate from the browser cookie lifetime. Google deletes expired data through its scheduled processing; standard aggregated reports are not subject to that two-month setting and may remain available longer. We review summary traffic reports to improve the site, using Google Analytics and authorized reporting tools, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT/Codex. Those providers process report information supplied to their tools. We limit this analysis to summary reports rather than individual visitor identifiers. Your saved plants.

When you choose “Save plant,” we use local storage named psfc.plant-shortlist.v1 in this browser to remember the plant’s ID and the date you saved it. This is the information needed to provide the shortlist you requested. It is not an Analytics cookie, and saving plants works even if you reject optional Analytics.

Each saved plant is kept for up to 180 days from saving. Our site stops using expired entries when you return; local storage does not expire automatically, so the stored record may remain until you update or clear the list or clear browser data. The displayed photos, names and safety labels come from our currently published guides, not from a saved assessment.

Your list stays in this browser on this device. We do not receive its contents or send them to Google Analytics, and we do not track the save/remove actions. The saved-plants page does not load Google Analytics. This list is not synchronized between devices or accounts. Clearing browser data, private browsing or storage limits may remove it sooner. If storage is unavailable, we tell you and changes may last only while the current page stays open.

Use “Remove” or “Clear all saved plants” on My plant shortlist to manage or delete your saved entries. Clearing the entire list removes this storage entry when browser storage is available. This does not change your separate Analytics choice.

Website delivery.

Cloudflare provides our website hosting and delivery. It processes technical information about requests, including IP addresses and traffic information, to operate and protect its services. Requested URLs can include plant search terms. Hosting providers may also produce traffic statistics and security logs; this processing is separate from our application’s plant search.

Contacting us.

If you email us, your email provider and ours process that correspondence. We receive the address and information you choose to send and use them to respond and investigate the issue. Please do not send personal medical or veterinary records.

Retailer links and other websites.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Some plant guides and saved-plant cards contain labeled Amazon links that may earn us a commission. They include our Associate tag so Amazon can attribute qualifying purchases. Following a link takes you to Amazon, which handles that visit under its own cookie and privacy practices. Shopping links on the saved-plants page do not load Analytics or send your saved list to Amazon. We do not load Amazon tracking scripts, product images or cookies on this site. Retailer links work whether you accept or reject our optional Analytics. The Analytics choice controls collection on this site; it does not control Amazon’s handling of a visit after you follow a link. Our source references also lead to outside websites with their own privacy practices. No display-ad service is active.

Changes to this page.

We will update this page when the site’s features or data practices change. New advertising, affiliate services or other tracking would require a fresh review and disclosure before activation.
